This is probably my favorite song on the new album. It reminds me of Dig Ophelia, one of the most haunting and memorable Rasputina songs.
Does anyone know the story behind Dark February? |

I definitely dont know the story behind it, but I always like to think its a song about winter constellations and how they signaled the arrival of spring to early civilization.
My favorite part:
"I attempt to seek out the source, of this ancient curse, by bad-tempered Gods. Of how the moon keeps on its course, with out being stopped by the cries of dogs."
I thought maybe the 'cries of dogs' was a reference to the constellation Canis Major (meaning greater dog) and one of its stars, Sirius. This star is considered the brightest star in the night sky (ahaha get it?)
The origin of this constellation has Greek mythological roots, which might explain the 'bad-tempered Gods' part.
Then again, I could be just over-analyzing this song, haha. Which is most likely the case
Its probably a coincidence that 'My Night Sky' and 'Dark February' are my top-favourite songs off the album. |

| I really like this song. I let my mom listen to some of it; her reaction, "She sounds like the female version of Tiny Tim." I had to laugh because well, it's Tiny Tim and listening to the song again, at the beginning she kind of does sound like him. |

That's rather harsh! No, lock them into a room and pipe in the Best of Andy Williams for 24 hours. And you deserve a spanking! And not a nice, my-you've-been-a-very-naughty-boy spanking, either. One administered by a very old, very angry, very strong nun. _________________ I like them slightly misbegotten. |
